I'm so excited about this book! Stripped a Collection of Anonymous Flash Fiction edited by Nicole Monaghan.
I'm thrilled to be a contributing author! There really is a reason why I'm posting this bit of literary information to our Bridger Construction and KB Design Stage blogs. It's because the inspiration for my story came from a job we did. I tell stories for clients... I ask them what styles they like, colors, moods, what feelings they want to evoke when they enter a space. Sometimes they're not sure. They may give me a few shades of blue. They may even give me the opening line; "I see this as a retreat" or "I want this to be like a zen spa!" They might even describe a place they knew and loved. It's my job to create a room that reflects their unique tastes, their personal style, their passions.

In the end the house or room tells a tale of who our clients are in the world, how they see themselves or want to be seen. Often it creates a space that allows them to fulfill their dreams, live the life they have only vaguely dreamed possible.

Houses, wood, wallpaper, antiques, inspire me. A stark white room with modern fixtures and abstract art tell a much different story than 4 walls of creamy golden plaster and wrought iron 1920's sconces.

I love telling my own stories too... When my two creative worlds collide, all the better!

Ikea in Denver!

Finally a local (more local than Tempe, AZ or Sweden) where you can get a Highschool biology lab inspired kitchen island.. Phew!

For those if us who are organizationally challenged this hide- and- go seek pantry with all it's containers is dazzling!

We have a client who needs the cost effective ikea kitchen but who will be able to outfit all his vanities in the same cabinetry as well! Ikea to the rescue! Warm and modern, doncha think?

Great piece! Not just an island this would look great in a show room, bedroom, walk-in closet, art room, studio space....I could list the possibilities all day long!

This architect's stool is working the same corner at a local antique shop... a little warped, but half the price of a new one at Restoration Hardware. Clever side table...if you like your light slanted...and your water glass empty.

I'm always amazed by the puzzle the masons create with their stone crafting.

This Mountain village home in Telluride is really starting to look amazing.

IThe Avon lady will be coming any day now!

I took this shot a day or two ago, and already this side is almost complete!

This is "before"...can't wait to see "after."

The modern siding detail help balance the rustic beams and stone work.

All of this accomplished during one of the heaviest, craziest snow seasons in a long time!

Bridger Hill Inc., the commercial division of Bridger Construction Services had a grand time with some local tots at the Spring Fling fair for Bright Beginnings in Montrose, Colorado today. Our project manager Ronnie set up some tough-as-nails, interactive demos for the kids. We also had Bridger Hill Inc. logo tape measurers to hand out to anyone brave enough to climb aboard the John Deere or hammer the enormous spikes. We were fortunate to have won the contract to build the new early childhood development center. Construction begins in about a week!

Denver Design Obsession: My Washington Park Heartthrob

I have passed this great house on the shores of Washington Park many times. I can't seem to get it out of my consciousness. It looks as though it was a remodel. If my hunch is right then the carved siding must be original, right?

The 1st 2 shots were taken last summer.

I realize the remaining pics are not the most quality shots, dead of winter, not staged, etc. Call me a chicken if you care to but I did not want to ring the doorbell to ask if I could even the blinds, hide the alarm CO sign, or take the plastic off the grill. I think the homeowners remain happier knowing a perfect stranger is only taking house stalker photos and not bugging them about a photo shoot! Bear with me! The shots I took last summer were farther away because I was sure the police were coming to take the "mamarazzi" away if I kept up my obsessive house hunter shots, and drool wiping.

Let's discuss what mama likes about this modest little darling....for one thing I love the copper tile siding. They are actually metallic and reflect brilliantly in the mile-high sun! I also love the clean modern windows juxtaposed with the slightly more traditional contemporary craftsman windows. It's a warm modern. A modern your grandma might like, a modern that allows for function not just form.

The home owners did a great job with the landscaping too, grasses, architectural branches...inviting patio...

Contemporary Craftsman usually nods at asian influences just like this one...but maybe it's me but I can't help seeing the carving as slightly Polynesian. I really love it. I think the colors, form, etc could easily be translated into a bigger version for a more rural setting.

Did I mention the exterior lighting...my house crush just goes on and on!

I had a wonderful surprise waiting in my inbox this morning! A dear friend sent me an ETSY link to this beautiful Telluride Map rendered in sepia waterolor! The shop is called Summitridge. It's my favorite among many beautiful and unique pieces.

Summitridge also has a whole map series. I love the abstract nature and the colors are fantastic!

The last one is of Aspen. I love the Picassoesque horses that materialize in the print.
I'd love to use these in my next room design!

Most readers know I'm a bit of a modernists, but I have to admit I love looking at really over the top painted Ladies- who doesn't, right?!

San Francisco is the perfect spot to rubber neck!

I wonder how big the tree was when they built this slender beauty.

Some may call it gilding the lily but the status points earned by egg and dart molding over crown over fluted columns was maybe the equivalent of an ipad in one hand, kombucha in the other, waving to your one of three nannies while on your way to heli-ski pre-season work-out class in your next season uggs and Lulu Lemon size 0's. Perhaps... I'm no expert.

Santa Fe inspiration!

We came down to buy a Prius!!! Can not justify the big Bridger truck driving from Telluride to Montrose on nice days! The gas savings is going to be over $300 a month!
While we're here we are enjoying the Farmer's market, contemporary art museums, New Mexican cuisine and the local colors and flavor!

As you drive by our new office in Ridgway, we have new photos on display. This was a project we did in Log Hill. The views were stunning.

We still have people asking us if the office is our home or if it houses any of our project managers. The answer is no. Short of putting a neon open sign in, I'm not sure how to make it look any more commercial. A new fence goes in soon...perhaps that will help!

Over the Moon for Lunafest

Lunafest was recently at Ah Haa. Loved all the short films! Some were animated, some were documentaries other mini- dramas- all really compelling and discussion sparking! If I had to only pick 3 faves They would be Miracle Lady, Touch, and Thembi's Diary. They were marked by black humor and great design, realistic and efficient dialog and lastly a very artistic rendering a human resilience and tragedy.
MMMm love good film!
It was also a treat to have the audience composed of women aged 10- 80 ish... some granola, some stylish... :)

Restoration Hardware now has a stunning and substantial Belgian Furniture collection, and as much as it would be tempting to buy everything for a space at that store, alas, a home must have more soul.

Belgium and Argentina may not be sisters but I believe they may be distant design cousins. I am a little obsessed with Argentina lately, can you tell? It will be our next BIG vacation destination...big country though- which area to choose? I digress...

In the meantime, I am very interested in fusing my new obsession into old obsessions...Belgiantina-this will be the big 2011 style fusion, I see it now! Look out Axel Vervdoordt!

Loving these last four items from architectural artifacts...all Argentinian, by the by! The two faux bois bird houses slay me! The color, patina, playfulness, scale...pure sculpture!

Mid century modern Argentina meet pickled oak Belgian style. I think adding chrome, mirrors, mercury glass candlesticks, pops of purple and red ensure that the Belgian aesthetic doesn't get stogy. Burst of whimsy, baby!

So- in a bedroom this highly reflective lamp base would mirror the surface it would sit upon...ideally a very visibly grained antique table...the following Argentinian bent wood table might do the trick in a small space but a much larger room an old trestle wood library table would thrill me with juxtapositional delight! I'm sure I could find something, if not at a country auction, at Restoration Hardware for sure! I hear there is a Colorado outlet in Castlewood, hmmmmm!

This gorgeous home in Cornerstone was a blast to photo style... I had so much to work with... The designer ( Ronnberg Associates from Denver) and architect (Russel Geiss) did an amazing job creating a very modern yet comfortable and cozy house.

Bridger Construction built this solid, house...made all the plans come to life! Lucky us!

Santa Barbara architecture and gardens....what a surprising city. Having never been I expected everything to be lush and clean and quaint. There was some of that, sure. State street was grittier than I imagined. Have I been rural too long now? When I lived in Seattle was I immune to the grit and urban decay? Maybe. I did love the white buildings, the mission style buildings, the shade trees, the courtyards, the modern and the spanish influences.

IMG_1539 Bridger Construction Services is building a Tuscan style home on the south side of Montrose, Colorado. It fascinates me how similar the terrain is to it's Italian cousin! There may not be vines a' plenty but the rocky hillsides, enormous azure skies and fertile valley views are very similar!

Before... Boy was this house blue!

It had great highway frontage= visibility!!

Made a cute victiorian into a more craftsmen like cottage... Wanted to ease up on cute and go a liitle more masculine.

Although the construction on this downtown Montrose, Colorado dental office has been complete for a while. The landscaping is also done now too! I love before and after shots but sometimes I get into perfectionist mode and have to wait until the "after" can be really stunning and all the way done. So with out further delay, here is another of our commercial projects. This was done under our commercial division, BridgerHill.

I had a great time finding specialty items for the craftsmen/hint of Victorian Motif the client wanted to create in her office!
